A philatelic tribute to French naval history
The Duguay-Trouin, a Barracuda class submarine, is the latest addition to the six SNAs of the French Navy. Based in Toulon, it was put into active service in April 2024. This is not the first time that a submarine has been honored by La Poste: The Redoubtable inaugurated this tradition in 1969. The Cherbourg event served as a reminder of the importance of these vessels in naval history and local construction. The crowd present showed enthusiasm for this unique postal tribute, combining regional pride and passion for French maritime stories and exploits.
For those who were unable to obtain the stamp on November 7, La Poste has planned an additional event: the remaining copies will be available during the exchange day organized by the Cercle philatelique et cartophile du Cotentin at the Agora, on Sunday November 24, 2024. Hurry up though, demand often exceeds supply; this new stamp could therefore quickly be out of stock.
