Winter viability: state services and road operators mobilized
The Haute-Loire department is classified in a “severe winter” climatic zone. Throughout the year, road and motorway network managers (interdepartmental road directorates, motorway companies, departments, municipalities) work to ensure the safety and maintenance of the roads. The particular weather conditions of winter lead to the implementation of a specific system to ensure the maintenance of traffic, called winter viability. The 2024-2025 winter service activation period runs from October 28, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
The national road network managed by the DIR Massif Central in Haute-Loire is the responsibility of the North district and the Center district. This network is made up of the A75, the RN102 and the RN88, the maintenance and operation of which are ensured by the Maintenance and Intervention Centers (CEI) of Langogne, Massiac, Brioude, Cussac-le Puy and Monistrol-sur-Loire.
The winter driving condition characterizes the state of the roadway made more or less passable by winter weather.
