A figure that has doubled since 2016
The number of registered victims “has doubled since 2016”specifies the SSMSI in its press release, an increase which is justified by an improvement in the care of victims and more and more victim testimonies shared.
In France, the number of cases recorded by law enforcement has reached 271,000 in 2023, an increase of 10% compared to the previous year. And the majority of victims are women (85%) while those accused are most often men (86%).

In the Meuse department, in 2023, there are 10 women victims of domestic violence per 1,000 inhabitants aged 15 to 64.
The Meuse rate is slightly below the national average of 10.6 per thousand, a figure which reflects a particularly increased vulnerability of women.
Figures for the rest of the territory
In the Grand Est region, the departments of Ardennes (12.6 per thousand) and Marne (13 per thousand) are among the areas hardest hit by domestic violence.
In the rest of French territory, it is Pas-de-Calais (15.2 per thousand) which leads in domestic violence against women aged 15 to 64 in 2023, followed by Réunion (14.6 per thousand). thousand), the North (14.5 per thousand) and the Somme (14 per thousand).
