A 37-year-old man dies while base-jumping after jumping from Mont Granier, in Isère

A base-jumping practitioner died on Thursday, November 7, during a jump from Mont Granier, in the Chartreuse massif, between the departments of Isère and Savoie. The victim, aged 37, was accompanied by several other base jumpers.

The thirty-year-old was the first in the group to jump. According to initial information, his parachute did not open during his jump and he hit a ledge before crashing into a small canyon below. His friends, who saw him fall, alerted the mountain rescue services.

A team from the CRS Alpes de was dispatched to the scene of the accident early in the afternoon, shortly after 1 p.m., in the town of Chapareillan (Isère). Two rescuers were winched to the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation was opened to determine the precise circumstances of the accident. Auditions are underway.
