On the night of October 27 to 28, individuals entered the Coup de Pouce solidarity grocery store located in Pêchereau by breaking the glass of the small kitchen window. In the premises, they took vegetables, canned goods, beauty products, cash registers and small equipment. But the theft was not limited to stock. One of the association's vehicles was also stolen.
“Our entire organization is called into question”
“It’s detestable because this theft was to the detriment of people in need,” underline Alain Grégnanin and Jean-Pierre Bilbeau, president and vice-president of the association. This local solidarity service sells food at low prices for people in economic difficulty. And the loss of their vehicle will create additional difficulties for the families being helped.
“We also have a utility vehicle, but our entire organization is called into question. We transport people who do not have means of transport. We currently have 177 beneficiary families, for a total of 457 people spread across the Creuse Valley community of communes and a few neighboring localities, i.e. twenty-five communes,” indicate the leaders of the association, created in 2011. This resulted last year in the distribution of 36 tonnes of food products.
Strongly growing demand
Although the operation of Coup de Pouce is seriously disrupted, eight of its fifteen volunteers were nevertheless at their post this Thursday, November 7. They wanted to continue their solidarity action. Every first three Thursdays and Fridays of each month, they sell goods at 25% of their value. “The number of beneficiaries is increasing sharply » , specifies Alain Grégnanin. The president filed a complaint with the Argenton gendarmerie, while the commune of Pêchereau, owner of the premises, secured their access with a defense gate.
