For his stay, the former president chose an exceptional residence: Le Mas des Poiriers, an 18th century mansion on the island of Barthelasse, rented for 55,000 euros per week. Surrounded by a vast orchard, this villa located near the Rhône offered a peaceful setting just a stone's throw from the Palais des Papes, allowing the family to enjoy the natural beauty of the region while remaining discreet.

Private tours and local discoveries

Barack Obama and his family explored several emblematic sites in Vaucluse. Their private visit to the Palais des Papes, without an official but accompanied by around ten vehicles from the procession, made an impression. After this historic foray, the family enjoyed a meal at the La Mirande restaurant, run by Michelin-starred chef Florent Pietravalle.

The Obama daughters, Sasha and Malia, also discovered the Isle-sur-la-Sorgue market on Sunday morning. The family continued their discoveries by visiting the Luberon, with a day on the famous Buoux cliff. Furthermore, Barack Obama visited the Château de Vaudieu, in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, one of the most prestigious wine estates in the region, famous for its wines.

Obama's presence in the region attracted many curious people, some stationing themselves on the roads leading to Barthelasse Island to try to catch a glimpse of him. The week ended at Château La Coste, in Puy-Sainte-Réparade. Before leaving, the prefect of Vaucluse at the time, Bertrand Gaume, came to greet the Obama family.
