An elected official from the south of Creuse sentenced to follow an awareness course on domestic violence

An elected official from the south of Creuse appeared this Thursday, November 7 before the Guéret criminal court: the mayor of Saint-Pardoux-Morterolles, a town of 200 inhabitants, was sentenced for having slapped his wife, as well as for insults and degrading remarks. He has six months to take an awareness course on domestic violenceat his expense, otherwise he will receive two months in prison. He will also have to pay 500 euros to the victim for moral damage. He has ten days to appeal the decision.

This violence is the result of a couple who have become damaged over time, analyzes Maître Viennois, who represented the victim: “they lost their ability to communicate. Their relationship has deteriorated with comments that demean, comments that humiliate. She collapsed, little by little, until she started drinking excessively.“With difficulty, the defendant ended up admitting the verbal violenceduring the hearing. He also explains having reached the limits of his patience, faced with his wife's alcoholism.

When he discovers her drunk, once again, six months ago, he gives in to anger and slaps her. “We must put things in context, with an illness problem, which is not at all attributable to the victimindicates Maître Gillet, who defended the defendant. Alcoholism is a horrible thing, it's very hard to get out of it. After decades of attempts to help, the husband found himself helpless and, in a gesture of exasperation, chose the wrong solution.
