The reindustrialization of stalled

Bad times indeed between January and June for French industrial dynamics. Only 36 openings of industrial sites have been recorded in six months. At this rate, it will be impossible to reach the figures for 2022. We were at 176 creations over the year. There were 189 in 2023.

**>> Industry: “If our public buyers were as patriotic as in Germany, we would make 15 billion euros in addition to “made in ”, assures specialist Olivier Lluansi

**The Ministry of the Economy puts forward two elements: a normalization of factory openings after a recovery recorded at the end of the Covid crisis, and the economic situation deteriorated by geopolitical uncertainties which have significantly slowed down investment projects. When we look in detail, it is the green industry linked to the environment which comes first in site openings – 17 in total. Conversely, the automobile seriously dampens the atmosphere. With the energy crisis and drop in sales of new vehicles, production has fallen and led to numerous closures, mainly of equipment manufacturers, and the movement is not over.

Pessimistic outlook

This situation is worrying for production and employment in the affected sectors. As for a recovery in the situation, it is difficult to imagine for one simple and very short-term reason: the result of the American presidential election. Business circles hate uncertainty. However, Donald Trump is the man of all unpredictabilities, capable of deciding everything and its opposite, overnight, in commercial relations with his international partners.

Especially since Europe already suffers from a competitiveness problem linked to its lack of investment, as highlighted by the recent rapport Draghithe former European Commissioner who was also President of the European Central Bank. Add to this the tax projects of the French government as part of the construction of the 2025 budget currently being debated in the National Assembly.

Too much uncertainty, national and international, for investors and entrepreneurs who will continue to wait and see before following through on their projects. A real subject for reflection as the Made in France show opens on Friday November 8 in , until Monday 11, Porte de .
