In November, the League Against Cancer launches the Gentlemen's Challenge. It is an awareness campaign on male cancers. The president of the League against Cancer in Mayenne Bernadette Perrot will offer free workshops on Tuesday November 12, 2024 in Louverné. The objective is to help men know their body better, and above all teach them to detect possible health problems linked to the prostate or testicles.
Why this awareness campaign on male cancers ?
Because these are cancers that we don't talk about much. It is above all prostate cancer and testicular cancer (2,700 cases per year). The latter affects young men between 20 and 30 years old. Prostate cancer is the number one cancer in men with 59,000 cases and 8,100 deaths.
What will you propose during this Gentlemen's Challenge, Tuesday November 12?
Among the workshops, there will be one in which I will have an anatomical board because unlike women, men do not know at all how they are made! I will explain to them in relation to the situation of the prostate, the different urinary signs from which they will suffer since any increase in the volume of the prostate or the presence of a tumor will compress the urethra, which leads to frequent urges to urinate. , nighttime lifting and a reduction in jet power.
For anyone who won't be able to attend, what advice could you give?
If men have these urinary signs, or even sometimes lower pelvic pain, they should consult a doctor quickly, so that they can do not have a PSA (prostate specific antigen) test but rather a rectal exam. And depending on the results, there will be an ultrasound, biopsy and PSA. Because PSA is useful for monitoring an already known cancer, but not for diagnosing it.
Tuesday, November 12, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., in the council room of Louverné town hall, workshop on male cancer. Free but registration required with the town hall on 02 43 01 10 08.
