In old Cahors, the wash house is getting a makeover

Nestled in the heart of the badernes between the street of the same name and the rue Nationale, the washhouse block will experience a new lease of life. The municipality of Cahors has launched work to develop the public spaces of this small square. And it really needed it, as the whole was so degraded even though its oldest parts date back to the 13th century.

End planned for the first quarter of 2025

This redevelopment project has three main goals: the heritage enhancement of the site, improving the living environment of the residents and finally “reinforcing solidarity in the historic center”. Clearly, the town hall wants to fight against the isolation of seniors and various forms of precariousness of certain residents of the historic center. This is why an intergenerational center was established in the block, combining the foyer du petit mot and the social and citizen center of Vieux-Cahors.

The work aimed at fitting out the buildings of this center was delivered in May. Now for the construction site relating to the public spaces of the block. It began on October 23 and, if all goes well, will end in the first quarter of 2025. On the program: complete renovation of the floors, greening of the premises, addition of a drinking water fountain, installation of a pergola… All in all project “carried out in consultation with local residents and users of the new intergenerational center”, says the town hall. The plantings will ensure the closure of the site in spring 2025.
