what if we started fencing, one of the flagship disciplines of Guadeloupe

Fencing is the French sport which won the most medals at the last Olympics. When we talk about it in Guadeloupe, we think of Laura Flessel, Yannick Borel, Ysaora Thibus, Enzo Lefort and many others. The heirs of the “wasp” train hard. What if we started fencing in with the club of the Chevalier de Saint-George, Guadeloupean and greatest fencer of the 18th century.

At the Chevalier de Saint-George au Gosier fencing club, we strive to train the three musketeers of tomorrow. Queen discipline in Guadeloupe thanks to prestigious athletes who accumulate titles and victories. Fencing is a very complete sport that requires concentration and strategic thinking.

We do coordination and movement exercises. walking to get closer to the opponent, retreating to move away and attack to split. We must force young people to concentrate.

Once the warm-up exercises are completed, you can put on the outfit. The fencers are obviously protected from head to toe.

In Guadeloupe, the two weapons practiced are foil and epee. There is no saber teaching.

The three weapons are distinguished by the way they hit and by the priorities. In foil for example, the touch zones are the chest, stomach, shoulders and back, what we call the tank top. For the sword, Laura Flessel's weapon, which brings us the most medals, the whole body is valid.

As for the saber, it is a weapon which touches with the edge or the prick and which is valid for everything above the belt.

A signaling device connected by a cord allows touches to be registered.
