HAS Hikingdelegated municipality of Tourouvre-au-Perche (Orne), populated by just over 700 inhabitants, the subject comes up on the table several times a yearand was recently discussed in municipal council.
This summer, from August 30 to September 21, a community of travelers settled “near the activity zone, on land belonging to the community of communes”, explains the mayor of Randonnai, Jean- Jacques Bouttier.
Acts of incivility
“We are not worth putting everyone in the same basket”, supports the mayor, “with most families, everything goes well […] “but we noticed a certain amount of incivility this summer.”
To be able to connect to the network, an electrical box has been damaged“the repair of the case in question will represent an additional cost of €3,500 for the municipality,” specifies Jean-Jacques Bouttier.
Municipal teams also noted connections to fire hydrants.
“We did everything we could”
The mayor indicates “having followed the necessary steps” – with the gendarmerie then the prefecture – as every time the situation arises, “we followed the procedure, but the families left a week later than planned”.
In addition to the damage, the municipality had to deal with a significant “wild dump”, consisting of approximately 600 kg garbage.
An additional cost for the municipality
«We have no preconceptions, we simply want respect for the rules, we do not have the human or material means to deal with these incivilities,” explains Jean-Jacques Bouttier. “I understand that we are bothering them, but for the municipalities it represents a significant additional cost.”
As a small town – and since it has a population of less than 5,000 inhabitants – Randonnai is not required to provide a reception area for travelers. The closest are located at l'Aigle, 10 km to the north, and at Alençon, 50 km to the southeast.
