Alain Charrier was appointed prefect of the department on Wednesday November 6. He will succeed Raphaël Sodini in the smallest department in France.

One prefect chases another. Appointments are regular in the prefectures. Alain Charrier, 62, until now held the position of sub-prefect of Mulhouse in Haut-Rhin.
A graduate of the Angoulême Normal School, he first worked at the start of his career as a teacher for two years, then he continued his career in the children's press.
The man entered the state administration in 1991 at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This sector brought him to Charente, Nièvre then Ardèche, Indre-et-Loire.
Alain Charrier joined the prefectural body in 2009. Until then he held positions in the sub-prefectures in Altkirch, Sartène and most recently Mulhouse.
Alain Charrier is a Knight of the National Order of Merit.
