There will be 300 Japanese present for a week at Colmar. From Tuesday 12 to Sunday 17 November 2024, the country of Rising Sun will be in the spotlight in the city of Haut-Rhin.
Indeed, for its Japan week, Colmar has planned numerous animations. On the program: martial arts demonstrations, creative workshops, traditional shows, craft market, space dedicated to gastronomy…
The Koïfhus, the Saint-Martin circle and the Catherinettes chosen
Three locations have been chosen to host this Japan Week.
The Koifhus first of all, the former Customs of Colmar, will host various organizations and representatives of Japanese municipalities. A very large exposition will be waiting for you. On the program, multiple arts will be exhibited: paintings, calligraphies, photographs, kimonos, sculptures… “A true immersion in the Japanese artistic universe will be offered to you,” specifies the city.
In addition to art, there will be an introduction to calligraphy, discovery of the ceremony thé, demonstration martial arts, tasting of sake Japanese and “omusubi” (rice balls), trying kimono, Ise stencil cutting art workshop, art of ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement)
The second place is Saint-Martin circle. In this emblematic monument of the city, you can see various representations theatrical. Here is the detailed program:
- November 12: performance of Koto (Japanese harp), violin ensemble and choir, wind orchestra.
- November 14: Japanese classical dance, traditional music, piano, koto (plucked string instrument) and chindon (parade of disguised musicians, hired to advertise) performances.
- November 15: classical, contemporary and Japanese tap dance, songs with guitar, samurai theater scene with Japanese singing and Japanese drum performance
- November 16: belly dancing, samurai performance, Japanese songs and lively piano
- November 17: Japanese classical dance, samurai performance and Japanese and animated piano songs
Finally, the Catherinettes will welcome the opening ceremony, Tuesday, November 12. On the program: traditional street music “chindon”, Ainu music, traditional and tap dances, samurai demonstrations, Japanese drum shows (wadaiko).
