A union is stepping up to the plate in order to retain all the services of the La Poste de Tamaris office in Alès, in 2025.
“This post office serves users in the Tamaris, Cévennes and Bruèges districts, who find here all services related to mail, banking, telephony, etc. »details Jérôme Lacroix, CGT-FAPT Gard manager who is offended by a “Post office closure in January 2025”located 3 rue Jean Roupain in Alès. Paul Planque, municipal councilor of Alès and community councilor of Alès Agglomération, says he is dismayed: “The remoteness of this public service would aggravate an already situation of generalized declines in public services (health, school, etc.) affecting the life of these neighborhoods by leading to the disappearance of businesses, forcing users to move with the mobility difficulties that we know. »
Management reacts
For its part, the management of the La Poste group denies any closure on the said date, but mentions a ” evolution “. By press release, she details: “In Alès, as everywhere in Gard and in France, La Poste is evolving its territorial presence in order to best meet the needs of the population. La Poste is indeed adapting its organizations to changing lifestyles and uses, in a context of constant decline in traffic, of around 6% on average per year nationally. This drop in attendance in Alès is of the order of -36% between 2019 and 2023. » Management therefore informs of an evolution of the postal presence “to best meet the demands of local residents”. Developments which “do not call into question the postal presence in the city, with the maintenance of 7 points of contact in Alès”.
A drop in attendance of around “-36%”
Paul Planque does not budge: “ When you want to kill your dog… you know the adage. La Poste cites a drop in activity and digital technology as the culprit; she chooses there, financial profitability to the defiance of public service. The Post Office is not a commodity but a public service which helps to guarantee equality of services for all.” The use of digital technology according to the Alesian elected official? “It does not replace humans but aims to facilitate procedures; we experience it, the absence of professional agents makes life more difficult and widens a divide that excludes many people.” A rally is planned for this Friday, November 8 at 10:30 a.m. in front of the post office. To conclude, management, which says it is in contact with local elected officials, recalls that “all postal workers will find a place in the future deployed organization”.
