Prefect Philippe Castanet leaves Lozère, Gilles Quénéhervé, sub-prefect of and bronze medalist at the 1988 Olympic Games, replaces him

It's official since Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Philippe Castanet is leaving his post. Gilles Quénéhervé, also known for his bronze medal in the 200m at the 1988 Olympic Games, is his successor.

Goodbye Philippe Castanet. Welcome Gilles Quénéhervé. The first, prefect of Lozère since March 9, 2022, will leave his position on Sunday November 24. The second, sub-prefect of (Seine-Maritime) since July 4, 2022, will succeed him the next day. This departure and arrival were made official during the council of ministers on Wednesday, November 6.

“Leave a clean situation”

Two and a half weeks before departure, the native of La Spezia (Italy) does not hide his sadness. “It’s a very difficult moment, although inevitable, especially after the relationships I have built here.” His interlocutors will keep the image of him as a prefect with an unconventional style, always available, affable, courageous, free and erudite.

In recent months, Philippe Castanet has accelerated the pace to advance numerous files. “I did it to leave a clear situation for my successor – even if there is never a perfectly clear situation, because we have a new government with new demands. It was important to sign, before my departure, the Langogne bypass or the Roujanel photovoltaic plant. Conversely, I will refuse a wind project. If there is contention, it will be up to the next prefect to manage it.

A road map

The senior official also leaves a road map to his replacement in terms of delinquency. “We will have to focus on narcotics,” he confides. He will also take stock with his teams of the 24 projects he has committed to for 2024.

The new prefect of Lozère, Gilles Quénéhervé, aged 58, is also known for his career as a high-level sportsman. He was indeed crowned vice-world champion in the 200m, in Rome (Italy), in 1987. In 1988, at the Olympic Games in Seoul (South Korea), in this same discipline, he obtained the bronze medal . In 2012, he graduated from the National School of Administration. In addition to sub-prefect of Le Havre, he was also sub-prefect of Morlaix (Finistère).
