Murder Party: 200 investigators to solve the riddle of the fatal wedding in this castle in Aveyron

Traditionally after the “Pumpkins and Witches” week, the Toussaint Murder Party closes the season at the Calmont-d'Olt castle.

With nearly 200 people under a beautiful starry sky, it was a success. This nocturnal event was an opportunity to take the visitor back to the middle of the 13th century. “We are in 1254. The good King Louis IX is finally back in the kingdom of after six long years waging war in Palestine during the 7th Crusade. More pious than ever, he has just implemented a number of reforms of austerity aimed at the morals of his people which he considered too light, prohibiting, among other things, mixed bathing and prostitution.

200 investigators on site

While everything is going well in the barony of Calmont since the inhabitants of Espalion are preparing to celebrate the wedding of Célestin Leboeuf, son of the late Consul of the town, with Marie-Madeleine Ribourd, the daughter of the keepers of the public baths of the city, the latter was found lifeless in the castle's armory shortly before vespers. A horrible crime that will shock the population.

Joseph, captain of the castle garrison in charge of the investigation, really needed one evening's investigators to elucidate this tragedy. Everyone played along to try to unmask the culprit of a horrible crime. Everyone had plenty of time to question a dozen suspects, determine their motivations, check their alibis, cross-check their statements…

The finest sleuths thus discovered that it was Constance Cordelier who had strangled with her rope then decapitated (post-mortem to cover her tracks) the victim out of jealousy because she was the mistress of Célestin Leboeuf who was to marry the victim.

Everyone appreciated the friendly atmosphere and enjoyed carrying out the investigation which was not so simple to solve, while warming up at the braziers and enjoying the refreshment bar and the roasted chestnuts offered.

After closing the doors of the castle on Sunday evening and meeting next spring for a new season full of beautiful surprises, the association for the preservation of the castle of Calmont-d'Olt thanks the public and all the volunteers who make this kind possible event.
