At the François-Villon high school, in Les Mureaux (Yvelines), teachers, students and parents decided to move forward hand in hand to denounce the numerous malfunctions which disrupt the life of the establishment.
This is how days “dead high school” were decreed on November 5 and 6, 2024. Only around fifteen students out of 1,380 crossed the high school gate this Wednesday, November 6.
Numerous and worsening problems
According to the protest, the problems are numerous, do not date from yesterday and are only getting worse. “In ten years, high school has gone from 850 to 1,380 students. We end up with classes of 36! »
“Some repeaters are left behind due to lack of places. At the same time, there are absences of teachers who have not been replaced and we have lost three educational assistant positions. There is only one nurse and no school doctor or social worker. »
“Holes in the fences”
The list of grievances, already long, is not finished. “We can add to this the canteen which is too small and problems of security recurring problems that have already been reported on several occasions,” adds Nadia Moolkea.
“There are holes in the fences,” says Antoine, an education assistant (supervisor). Last year, there were four or five intrusions, people coming to steal scooters in particular. I took one to the head. »
“The third best high school in the academy ten years ago”
A teacher who wishes to remain anonymous, who has been at the high school for almost ten years, notes that the situation is getting worse from year to year. “It was the third best high school in the academy ten years ago. »
“Now we are at the bottom of the rankings. The number of students has exploded and we do not have the means to cope. On Tuesday morning, for example, there are no rooms available. I have seen classes taking place in a meeting room. »
Sandrine, a teaching assistant who has been at the establishment for five years, says that one day she had to leave your desk to a student. “In some rooms, it is impossible to install 35 chairs. Students are forced to work on the floor. »
Lack of space in the canteen
Situations far from optimal for young people who take the baccalaureate a few months later. “Luckily the teachers are understandingbecause the working conditions are not good”, testifies Alana, student of 1re.
“In classes, some video projectors don't work, there are electricity problems. In the canteen, you have to arrive first to be served. There are missing plates, cutlery…”
“We cannot accept this lack of resources”
The maire Francois Garaywho is following the issue closely “with other mayors from the surrounding area” (Editor’s note: elected officials from Mureaux, Bouafle, Chapet, Flins-sur-Seine, Ecquevilly and Meulan have planned to meet the demonstrators this Thursday, November 7, 2024), is not surprised to see this anger erupt. “This fairly strong reaction was already present before the All Saints’ Day holidays. This high school is located in a priority education zone, we cannot accept this lack of resources. »
“I am not sure that the rectorate has realized the crucial need to maintain this excellence at the François-Villon high school. He must react quickly. »
The MP raises her voice
Dieynaba Diopsocialist deputy of the 9e constituency of Yvelines and former deputy mayor of Mureaux, visited the site on Tuesday November 5, 2024.
In a publication on X, she called on “the State and the Region to take their responsibilities”. The parliamentarian adds: “I will stay at their side (the demonstrators) so that these grievances and these demands are respected. There cannot be break of tie in the school of the Republic. »
Contacted by 78 actu, the Versailles academy said that “the situation is being monitored by departmental services. Representatives of parents and representatives of high school staff will be received by the Directorate of Departmental National Education Services. »
