What to discover at the 4th Space Month in Creuse until the end of November?

It is one of the nuggets that the planet Creuse contains: an astronomy festival which has returned every November for four years, organized by the Federation of Secular Works of Creuse (Fol 23) and with a host of proposals all each more original than the other.

This year, the common thread is that of “space surveyors”. At the helm, to pilot the vessel, are Nicolas Damien and Joris Cart, mediator and science and technology facilitator, known to the Creuse public in particular for the observation evenings organized during summer evenings.

Meetings free and open to all

But it is precisely because the stars are there all year round, in a sky that is often purer when it is colder, that the month of astronomy was placed in November. “Among the Fol in France, ours has always had the particularity of a strong astronomy specialization,” they explain.

The exceptional night sky has something to do with it, it's an opportunity to be seized here. » The RICE label awarded to the PNR Millevaches, and which radiates throughout the region, is a beautiful illustration of this. By creating this event in the fall of 2021, it was a way for Fol 23 to build on this reputation and go further in the mix of scientific education and popular culture.
The program is therefore designed to make sometimes very specialized knowledge accessible to as many people as possible.

Each meeting – they have increased from six to eight since the first edition – is free and open to the general public. There is something for everyone since Space Month sometimes uses the playful prism (escape game, etc.), sometimes the artistic angle (film screening, exhibition, etc.), or simply the good old method of a conference. with experts specially invited to Creuse. This year: Alain Blanchard, astrophysicist specializing in the Big Bang; Cyril Rehel, program manager on the new Ariane 6 rocket…

Other highlights of this fourth launch include: an exhibition of photos from the James Webb space telescope, some of which have such resolution that they can crash your computer; or the screening of the film Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, one of the most powerful films on space, recounting the disturbing dive into a black hole and hailed for its truthfulness, released ten years ago.
