Air takes care of its carbon trajectory from Saint-Exupéry

On November 5 in , the teams ofAir presented a carbon trajectory ambitious for the French airline belonging to the group Air France-KLM.

It has already undertaken several works in this direction, to achieve the announced reduction in 30% of its CO2 emissionsper passenger and per year, by 2030.

A strategy of decarbonization strong, while by 2050, according to forecasts set out in 2023 by the Academy of Technologies, the aviation sector, on a global scale, will have to reduce by 21 billion tonnes its carbon dioxide emissions.

To achieve this, we have activated four levers: the renewal of the fleet with new generation aircraft, the use of sustainable fuels, the implementation of eco-piloting and the deployment of intermodality.“, explain Romain Luisettiresponsible for sustainable development and new mobility at Air France.

At Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport, Air France’s train+air offer appeals

From the Air France hub of Lyon Saint-Exupéry airportthe French company, the leading airline operator locally with 25% of traffic, is showing the way, precisely with the good results of its train+air offer which allows you to reach Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport by train from Lyon Part-Dieu, for long haul flights.

The Lyon station thus constitutes the first in France for the company, since it constitutes 30% of overall trafficlinked to this multimodal offer, growing by 20% in 2024 compared to last year.

Air France has even launched this offer since Switzerland and Germany to reach the airport.

Sustainable fuels, as a major axis of decarbonization for Air France

On the question of sustainable aviation fuelscalled Saf, products based on waste and residues coming in particular from the circular economy such as animal fat or cooking oil, the Air France-KLM group launched in 2021 an appropriate program called “Saf corporate” with a planned use of these green fuels at 10% by 2030, compared to 1.6% currently.

“The global need, all companies combined, will be 20 million tonnes of fuel by 2030, and we will have to position ourselves quickly with the production and distribution sectors to meet our needs by 2030”believes for his part, Stéphane Lamarrigue, regional sales director Air France Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

In the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpesthere are many companies to support, through the investment, production and use of Saf, like Poma, Desautel, Clauger, Boccard, Gattefossé and Descours & Cabaud.

But the most important efforts relate to the fleet renewal new generation aircraft, which consume less fuel. In 2024, Air France plans 36% new aircraftcompared to 7% in 2021. And the ambitions remain strong since this rate should reach 70% by 2030.
