Wolf in : Visibly the animal is settling in and the attacks are increasing

The prefecture orders increased vigilance

As we have told you, the OFB is categorical, at least one specimen of canis lupus lupus is present in Blayais in and would be responsible for the numerous attacks suffered by the herds of local breeders since this summer. On October 28, following this announcement, a meeting was organized between the prefectural services of Gironde, the OFB, breeders, hunters, and animal defense associations and elected officials. On this occasion, increased vigilance was ordered by the State and protection and support measures, particularly financial, were promised.

The attacks continue

Despite these provisions, it seems that attacks attributable to wolves continue to increase in this territory. The latest, during the night from Monday to Tuesday, on the farm of Lionel Egretier, in Anglade near Braud-et-Saint-Louis, which seems to be the epicenter of the attacks, where around ten sheep were injured by a canine. One of them died, the others were more or less seriously injured. The man spoke of his despondency to our colleagues at Bleu.

“There, I’m just disgusted”

« I don't know if it's the wolf but every week there is an attack » declares the farmer, referring to the predations on the surrounding herds and he explains: “ The last time was in August. I had lost three sheep, it's not the number that matters but now I'm just disgusted. I can't continue raising animals, it's daily work, it's not always easy and then a bug comes and makes us start all over again “. For the moment, analyzes of this new predation are being carried out by the OFB to confirm the involvement of the wolf and its results will be sent to Lionel within a few days.

“Wolves can settle here and we have no other choice but to live together” according to Ferus

Faced with this multiplicity of attacks in this sector of Blayais and its spread over time, it seems that at least one specimen of wolf has decided to settle in this territory and would therefore not be passing through. This confirms the sententious remarks of Ms. Johanna Frenaud, facilitator of the Aquitaine network of Ferus, the National Association for the defense and protection of large predators, at the end of the meeting at the prefecture on October 28: “ In any case, wolves can settle here and we have no choice but to live together.« .
