“I was a little lost, the advisor gave me a lot of help!” A minibus to take young rural people out of their isolation

In the Haute- department, the local rural mission seeks to reach young people in difficulty. And to get there, this structure decided to go meet them with a minibus that has been crisscrossing the countryside for eight months.

With its flashy colors, it’s a minibus that you can see arriving from afar! On board, an integration advisor, Caroline Cattoire, goes to meet young people aged 16 to 25. Its objective is to help them obtain the aid to which they are entitled and which, very often, they do not know about.

They are young people who have dropped out of school, often a little lost and always isolated. My mission is to reach out to them!

Social integration advisor, local rural mission of Haute-Vienne

Caroline Cattoire and her minibus have already covered more than 15,000 km on the small roads of Haute-Vienne.

On the day of our report, the professional and social integration advisor made a stop in Magnac-Bourg. On the village square, the minibus – all in color – does not go unnoticed.

This traveling office is intended to inform young people about the assistance they can claim to become a little more financially independent. Reception is increasing: more than 12% attendance in one year. More than 1,700 young rural people are monitored each year, 350 of them are what we call dropouts: interrupted studies, unemployed, without training, they feel stuck in their territory, very often still dependent on their parents . The local mission can help them progress towards more autonomy.

According to Eva Teixeira-Alves, the deputy director of the Local Rural Mission of Haute-Vienne, these young people are not used to traveling to find out about the assistance they can benefit from.

I was a little lost, even at my lowest point… The advisor gave me a lot of help! we talked about training that I could do thanks to the local integration mission.
