It was when they were leaving the scene that they were surprised by the police. Two individuals aged around twenty were arrested on suspicion of having set fire to several vehicles in a garage automobile from Taverny (Val-d'Oise), during the night of Tuesday October 22 to Wednesday October 23, 2024.
It was 2:35 a.m. when a national police patrol went up Avenue des Châtaigniers and came across a Renault Clio abandoned in the middle of the road. As they approached, the officials noticed that the doors were open and that the keys were in the ignition. Elements suggesting that the vehicle was left there by criminals to leave the scene as quickly as possible after committing their crime.
Four vehicles destroyed, twelve damaged
The police thus set up discreet surveillance of the car when, at the same time, they received a call informing them of a fire in a car garage a few meters away. On their way there, they came across two suspects fleeing and immediately arrested them while the firefighters intervened to contain the fire which destroyed four vehicles and damaged twelve others.
During their custody, the two alleged arsonists admitted the facts without giving any further explanation as to the reason for their actions. Brought to appear immediately before the Pontoise criminal court, they requested time to prepare their defense. Their hearing was adjourned until Thursday, November 28.
