“Why didn’t we do foilers? Because first of all, we didn't want it. » As is often the case, Jean Le Cam did not hold his tongue in his pocket this Tuesday, November 4, during a press conference six days before the start of the Vendée Globe, in Les Sables-d'Olonne.

But it will not have foils, unlike the vast majority of recently built boats. A choice that the 65-year-old skipper wanted to justify: “We didn't want it for reasons of boat control. This is a strong reason to have a simple boat that you master. I sailed the Orma at one time and at one point, the boats overtook the man. I like to pee in the bastaque quietly, without feeling afraid (sic). Mastery of the subject is important to me, especially on a world tour. I didn't want to be on a boat that I didn't have complete control over. I don't know how to master a foil boat for 80 days in the seas we're going to. Maybe because I'm too old. »
