Christophe Pereira is the director of AFPAN “green gold”, which organizes the event. He returns to the genesis of the festival:
“This festival has existed for 27 years now, since 1996. It started as a trade fair, with a group of friends who wanted to offer an exhibition that they had at their disposal, the BBC competition exhibition which is the most big international wildlife photo competition. And then there was immediate success and the association was created in 1997 to evolve over time and welcome 4,000 visitors initially and 45,000 today. It includes around a hundred photographic exhibitions, with conferences, round tables and environmental education activities for schoolchildren and young people. »
The Montier-en-Der festival is also a competition with significant participation each year, as Thomas Akremann, responsible for programming the Festival, explains to us:
“This year for example, we had more than 16,000 photos received, with 73 nationalities represented. The photographers send their images at the start of the year and we organize a jury in July which selects around a hundred images with the prize list. And there are around ten categories in all, whether for young people or adults, which deal with different subjects, birds, mammals, landscapes, graphics, etc. This allows for diversity. »
