Its launch was subject to the installation of road signs, which was done during the night, announced the Île-de- Roads Department (Dirif). In fact, since this Tuesday November 5 2024 in the early morning, the maximum speed authorized on a Val-de-Marnaise portion of the A4 is lowered from 90 km/h to 70 km/h. More precisely, it is the stretch from Bercy to Maisons-Alfort of the Eastern highway which is concerned, in the Paris-province direction. The province-Paris direction will experience the same fate tomorrow, Wednesday, November 6.

“A feeling of relentlessness”

This experiment, which will be implemented in Seine-Saint-Denis on the A86 North between Saint-Denis, and of the Friday November 8aims to reduce the atmospheric and noise pollution experienced by residents of these particularly busy roads, as well as accidents. Demanded for a long time by elected officials from the two departments, it must last one year, in order to measure its concrete effects, assures the Dirif. But users of the A4 are already experiencing concrete effects.

“It’s really not easy to be a driver in Île-de-France,” says Alexandra Legendre, spokesperson for the Drivers’ Defense League. The 50 km/h ring road, the ZTL, the increase in the cost of parking, soon the Crit'Air 3 sticker… There is a acceleration like restrictions in Paris and in its little crown that we have a feeling of relentlessness. »

According to Alexandra Legendre, this sequence of devices means that “motorists are exasperated”. They are also concerned about “extending their travel time” caused by this drop in speed. On road user Facebook groups, the comments are ironic:

“Great, we'll be able to cycle on the A86”, “We'll soon be pushing the cars”, “Paris- by train 3 hours, Porte de -Porte Maillot 4 hours, soon, it will be more profitable to work in a other country than IDF”; “It’s the story of a highway limited to a lower speed than a departmental one! but with potentially more radar checks for once…”; “Ah well, that’s cool! This will cause even more traffic jams. »

“Too much pulling on the rope…”

They are also pissed:

“Yes yes, the famous experiment decided arbitrarily without prior merit or subsequent results, we know the music. And as with every decision of this type, it is made on the sly in the greatest usual cowardice during school holidays and/or public holidays. If you pull the rope too much, it will end up breaking one day and that will hurt a lot! » ;

“By putting ourselves under pressure day after day, we will end up exploding…”; “Jackpot for the regions, the state must fill the coffers”; “It’s pure bullshit, because it’s proven that when a car drives slower it pollutes more, so where’s the point, I don’t see any right in bringing money to the state from fines . »

For Alexandra Legendre, “the authorities must understand that those who drive during the week are not for pleasure, but to go to work. They have plenty of concrete reasons for not taking public transport: because the connections are bad, because there is no RER running at night, because there are strikes…” And conclude, not very reassured: “We have already seen many experiments being sustained. »
