The square of Jean-Jacques-Rousseau high schoolin Montmorency (Val-d'Oise), was the scene of a violent confrontation between young people, Monday November 4, 2024. Around 3:15 p.m., a fight between “a few students from the high school and elements from outside the establishment”, specifies the management in a press release, broke out at the end of classes.
According to the first elements of the police investigation, the protagonists would not have been armed. However, the blows were quite violent. It was “the responsiveness of school life and the lodge which made it possible to contain the incident”, continues the management, while the municipal police also quickly intervened on the spot.
A teenager in police custody, several arrests to come
Alerted at 3:35 p.m., firefighters took care of five teenagers. After being examined, four of them were urgently transported to Eaubonne hospital. The fifth was arrested by the police and taken into custody for violence at the Enghien police station. He had to be interviewed by the police in order to determine his role in this brawl.
According to our information, four other protagonists identified by investigators were to be arrested during the day on Tuesday. The school management also specifies that the parents of the young people involved in the brawl “are being contacted. […] Once the facts are more clearly established, disciplinary procedures will be initiated.”
While the origin of this clash, which would have pitted high school students from Montmorency and young people from Soisy-sous-Montmorency, remains to be determined with certainty, a cell phone theft story was mentioned. The day after this violence, police officers were deployed to monitor and secure the area around the school. A presence which should continue “in the days that follow”, concludes the management of the establishment.
