Firefighters have been on site at the cement production factory since 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
The Gard firefighters have been intervening since Tuesday 3:30 a.m.for a fire starting in the lower part of a 31 meter high silo containing 512m3 of coal within the Calcia cement company, an industrial establishment classified Seveso, located in an industrial zone in Beaucaire“, underlined this morning the Gard first aid workers.
This silo supplies a boiler room as part of the cement manufacturing process. The fire brigade and the factory security service are proceeding “cooling of the silo from the outside using fire hoses and the integrated silo cooling system and inerting of the silo“, according to rescuers.
“No injuries or technical unemployment have been reported. 17 fire engines, command and medical aid resources from SDIS 30 representing a workforce of 32 firefighters are engaged in this long-term fire. The fire is being treated and the risk of spreading to neighboring establishments has been eliminated. The circumstances of this fire are unknown at this stage.
“The Gard firefighters are asking the population not to go there so as not to hinder the emergency services. The operation continues,” indicates the same SDIS press release.
