Plaisance. A time for yourself at the Alzheimer’s Memory Café

the essential
After several years of absence due to the health crisis, the meetings offered by the family support association are back.

The round table organized as part of the Carers' Fair, last October 12 at the multipurpose room in Plaisance-du-Gers, revealed through the poignant testimony of two carers the absolute necessity of not remaining alone and isolated when one works with a sick, disabled or losing loved one. It is precisely for people affected by Alzheimer's disease or related illnesses that these meetings called Café Mémoire are aimed, and which are offered free of charge in various locations. In Plaisance, it is at Ripa Alta, Place de l'Église, that we have been meeting monthly on Friday afternoons since last September. Sick people, caregivers, but also all those who are interested in the subject are welcomed by Victoire Deltour, psychologist, alongside Yolande Fior Serra, volunteer from the Alzheimer association of Gers. In this place conducive to discussion, participants exchange in a friendly atmosphere over coffee and a snack, find information, build relationships with each other…

A topic of discussion

A different theme is proposed each time, and on October 11, speaker Valérie Tierz addressed the contributions of socioaesthetics for caregivers and their sick loved ones. “It was about soothing the caregiver through hand care with different creams and scents, recreating a positive bond between caregiver-care recipient, and enhancing self-esteem,” she explains. The next meeting is set for Friday, November 15 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will have as guest Béatrice Boutet, legal representative. She will explain the different protection measures for vulnerable people, such as legal protection, curatorship, guardianship, or even family empowerment.
