A very sad discovery. It was around midday, Monday November 4, 2024, when a community agent, who came to feed the goats that inhabit the Petits Sablons hillside in Saint-Jacques-de-Thouars, saw a body floating in the waters of the Thouet. The police quickly arrived on site, as did several firefighters and a Smur team.
A 60-year-old fisherman used to this place
When they arrived, they could only note the victim's death. He is a 60-year-old man living in Thouars. According to the first information gathered by the investigators, he was a fisherman used to this place, located approximately 300 m from the chain ferry allowing you to cross the Thouet, just opposite the Ursulines meadow.
The victim's rods and fishing equipment were still in place when the emergency services intervened. The exact time and circumstances of this death remain to be established, even if the accidental hypothesis, such as discomfort or a bad slip, seems the most plausible at this stage of the investigation.
An autopsy could be performed to try to find out more about the causes of death, but no decision has yet been made by investigators. The lifeless body was taken care of early in the afternoon by a funeral team.
