On October 30, 2024, the Departmental Union of Yvelines Firefighters (UDSPY) organized a training day for pfirst aid citizen (PSC), in Vélizy-Villacoublay (Yvelines), as it organizes throughout the year throughout the department with the help of 40 trainers (professional or volunteer firefighters). 78 news attended.
In 2023, more than 300 training courses of this type will have been provided by the UDSPY. Some 3,000 people approximately were introduced to first aid procedures.
Rescuers, not saviors
As soon as we arrive, Stéphanie Rysman, the trainer, presents the goals of the day, and explains what is expected of “students”. “As first aiders, your role is not to make the person feel better, but to not make their condition worse. »
The tone is set. The goal is not to save lives, but also prepare as best as possible for the arrival of help. The first instinct to have is none other than to contact emergency services. THE 15the 18the 112: these are the numbers to call as a priority.
For the hard of hearing, deaf or mutethe number to contact by message is 114. Please note: you should only call one number. Calling two emergency numbers will not speed up the arrival of help.
“You should know that today, being trained means facilitating the arrival of first aid. »
Once emergency services have been notified, the first reflex must be to give localisation . “You always have to know where you are,” insists the trainer of the day.
Applications to intervene close to home
To help care for victims, applications have been put online by emergency services. Staying Alive et SAUV Life thus make it possible to be geographically referenced as being able to be contacted quickly to intervene with a person in distress close to their home in order to perform a cardiac massage.
Plus one cardiac massageis started quickly, the greater the chances of survival. “One minute less cardiac massage means 10% less chance of survival,” emphasizes Stéphanie Rysman.
Theoretical and practical
Throughout the training, the nine participants of the session are put in a situation, to better know how to react when the time comesand are introduced to several precise gestures, with models as victims. How to use the defibrillator is also explained. Don't panic if you think you have forgotten everything or almost everything after this training. Adrenaline will help you.
“The adrenaline is extraordinary. It increases strength and senses tenfold, it's like Asterix's magic potion! »
Different motivations and profiles
That day in Vélizy, the motivations and profiles of the participants were diverse. If some have taken the plunge after a bad experience others were there to prepare for the arrival of a baby in the family. Young adolescents, registered by their parents, were also among them.
Among trainers, CVs are just as varied. Stéphanie Rysman, for example, is school teacherin Meudon-la-Forêt (Hauts-de-Seine) by day, volunteer firefighter at night and during holidays. She has been working for ten years to train people in life-saving actions, including for National Education staff.
More and more good Samaritans
Good Samaritans, as emergency services call those who provide first aid, are more and more numerous when help arrives on site. “The trained person is the first link in the relief chain . People's mentality on this subject has evolved,” notes Sébastien Hermet, head of the first aid section of the UDSPY.
“All alone, we [les secours] can't do anything. The person who calls directly will be quickly guided. From there, all actions will be positive, and the chances of survival will be greater. »
As if to adapt to developments Over time, training has also been transformed. “To simplify reception by the public, the gestures and messages given change regularly,” explains Sébastien.
There are places left before the end of 2024
Between now and the end of 2024, training slots are still available for registration. To benefit from the seven o'clocktraining, you will have to pay the sum of €60.
“We haven't increased the price for ten years, so that it remains accessible to all,” says Sébastien Hermet, who recalls the importance of this training for theaccess to certain professionsas a school teacher, taxi driver, or even a childminder.
