POLITICS – The numbers are not neutral. The mayor of Poitiers, Léonore Moncond'huy, this Monday, November 4, is calling on Bruno Retailleau to “restore the truth” on the shooting that claimed the life of a teenager in the city. The Minister of the Interior had mentioned, wrongly, a brawl involving between “400 and 600 people ».
“I hope that the minister will correct the comments he made (…). We owe it in particular to the young person’s family”launched the elected environmentalist on France Bleu Poitou, denouncing comments which “contribute to fueling confusion between the youth of the neighborhoods as a whole and the traffickers as a whole”.
For Léonore Moncond'huy, Bruno Retailleau “committed a mistake”in “using the image of a neighborhood and the image of (Poitiers) in the service of an alarmist, populist discourse”.
“Brief scuffles”, according to the police and the prosecution
Thursday evening, while a Halloween evening organized by an association brought together many young people in the Couronneries district, gunshots in front of a kebab restaurant left five people injured, all minors. One of them, aged 15 and hit in the head, did not survive.
Commenting on the facts Friday morning on BFMTV/RMC, the Minister of the Interior declared that after the shooting, “a brawl between rival gangs” had opposed “several hundred people”castigating the « narcoracailles » and evoking a risk of « mexicanisation » of the country.
According to the police and the prosecution, however, brief scuffles only involved a few dozen people among the crowd present near the crime scene.
On Saturday, the national coordinator of France Insoumise Manuel Bompard was indignant at the remarks of the Minister of the Interior, denouncing a “ shabby practice » of “ political communication.
A minor who “did not nothing to do with drug trafficking”
The death of a teenager is “quite tragic in itself” so as not to “spread false information”continued the mayor of Poitiers, adding that the victim “had absolutely nothing to do with drug trafficking”.
According to his family, who spoke through a lawyer, the minor “had no delinquency problems”. Il “told his mother that he was going to buy a sandwich before going home. And he got shot.”Me Yasmina Djoudi told AFP on Sunday.
