No more pedagogy, place for the sanction from November 1, 2024… And yes, tires must follow the rhythm of the seasons, in Aveyron as in 33 other departments of .

Until March 31, the Mountain II lawwhich came into force in 2021, requires you to equip your vehicle winter tires or to hold snow chains or socks to travel on the roads of departments located in mountainous areas.

A fine of 135 euros and immobilization of the vehicle

Aveyron is therefore concerned by this measure which aims to guarantee better security on snowy and icy roads. It is also a question of avoiding blocked situations in mountainous regions, when unequipped vehicles find themselves across tracks, unable to free themselves, immobilizing an entire axis of traffic.

In the absence of equipment, in the event of an inspection, your wallet will take a hit… Because after a period of tolerance, the fines will fall… Unequipped motorists are thus exposed to a fine of 135 euros and to immobilization of the vehicle.

All vehicles circulating, even occasionally, in certain municipalities, must therefore be equipped winter tires (snow tires) or have removable anti-slip devices (chains and socks).

Affected by this regulatory change: light vehicles, utility vehicles, buses and heavy goods vehicles.

Only “3PMSF” tires allowed

The regulations allow you to choose between metal chains and textile chains commonly known as snow socks. You need at least two to equip the drive wheels.

Chains or socks must be stored on board the vehicle, and ready to use, as long as the journey takes a route in the areas affected by the new regulations.

Concerning snow tires, they must be tires falling under the “3PMSF” designation. Until now, 4S “4 seasons” tires could be considered winter tires provided they were stamped “3PMSF”. Likewise, vehicles with studded tires were exempt from equipment obligations.

Since November 1, 2024, only “3PMSF” tires will be accepted as equivalent to the chains. The purchase and use of other “snow tires” will remain possible, but users must, in this case, also have chains to travel from November 1 to March 31 in the areas affected by the measure.
