Géant Vert: sustainable and local sweet corn production in the Landes

In the Landes, sweet corn production led by Géant Vert continues to prosper while adapting to environmental challenges. Thanks to innovative initiatives, such as irrigation using satellite imagery.

Sweet corn in the Landes is currently experiencing good momentum, according to Antoine Bille, director of the factory. Green Giant in Labatut, the largest in Europe for the production of this vegetable. The company processes approximately 120,000 tonnes of raw corn each year, transformed into 350 million cans.

To face current challenges, particularly those related to water management, the company has taken major initiatives. Since 2020, an irrigation optimization project has been implemented. Using satellite images, this technology makes it possible to irrigate crops only when necessary, an innovation gradually deployed over 800 hectares since 2022. Although final results on water consumption are not yet available, initial observations show more rational use of resources.

The objective of this approach is to respond to environmental issues while maintaining local and French production. Antoine Bille also reaffirms the factory's commitment to produce exclusively in the Landes, a region where corn still has good prospects for the future.
