More than fifty people attended the Nuclear: Stop conference on Monday, October 28, or hosted by Stéphane Lhomme, director of the Nuclear Observatory in the Félix Arnaudin room at the invitation of Attac Landes Côte Sud. After introductory remarks by Armand Lepezel, Stéphane Lhomme demonstrated press articles and supporting graphics for more than an hour that contrary to popular belief, the share of nuclear power is insignificant and in decline. “Today, electricity represents less than 20% of global energy consumption, and of this 20%, nuclear power has gone from 17.1% in 2001 to just over 9% in 2023, i.e. barely 1.8%. He further explained that nuclear energy is today the most expensive form of production. He spoke out in favor of renewable energies and in particular solar energy which is booming and whose production cost is the most economical. This has been halved in 15 years unlike that of nuclear power which has doubled. A session full of questions and answers followed the presentation before sharing a friendly drink.
