Towards the end of the service, around 2 p.m., a few customers come to collect their order from Colonel Pizza on this Friday, October 25, 2024, in Nanteuil-lès-Meaux (Seine-et-Marne).
Everyone who collected their order has one thing in common: their pizza is in a cardboard box. However, Alexandre Colonel, the manager of the pizzeria, is waging a battle, that of changing morals by proposing reusable and recyclable pizza boxes.
Only qualities
Available in several colors, the box made of high density polyethylene is offered by the manufacturer Gilac. “It is airtight, clip-on and easy to maintain. It can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher,” explains the pizzeria manager, claiming to be “the only one to offer this in France.”
For Alexandre Colonel, this change is rather positive. “This box is well designed and taste-wise, it does not take away from the taste of the pizza, it does not arrive at customers' homes,” he explains.
He is aware of it, this device attracts more regulars and new customers. “I am offering this box for €8.90 for sale. For customers who take two to three pizzas from me per week, it pays for itself very quickly and they don't end up with mountains of boxes in their trash cans,” confides Alexandre Colonel.
The manager really wants this solution is being democratized in the coming years. “I ordered around fifty in total and I sold half of them to my customers. This change is very well received, I have never had any bad feedback, assures the pizza maker. I am thinking about perhaps installing a deposit system, where customers will have to bring me the reusable box,” he muses.
He hopes, either in his restaurant in Nanteuil-lès-Meaux, in Montévrain or on the roads with son food truckthat this new dynamic of reusable boxes could intrigue more customers.
Thus, the year 2025 with these two new points of sale that it plans to open in Seine-et-Marne, could surely be synonymous with “recycling”.
