He may not be known to the general public but nevertheless, in the world of Vendée motocross, its name is unmissable.
All future champions work with him. He is Valentin Teillet, 34 years old, a pure enthusiast who took his first steps on the pedals very early on.
“I started my career as a pilot. I was lucky enough to sign my first professional contract at 15,” he remembers.
At that moment, in his head, only one goal: “Become a world champion”.
The one who got on his first motorcycle at the age of three has a very extensive track record: European SX2 champion in 2012, three times French MX1 vice-champion and a bronze medal at the junior world championships.
“I made podiums, and then I had injuries, which made me think about my future. » He then makes the decision to move to the other side of the motorcycle, and validates a state motorcycling diploma.
Which brings him, in 2019, to create his own team: 737 performance.
“It’s a completely different life that I started, with the aim of developing motocross among young people, to support them. »
“I know what sacrifice means”
Not necessarily easy. You then have to prove yourself, and succeed in convince young people that his team is the place to be.
“My luck was that my racing career gave me some credibility early on. They trusted me quite quickly. »
Its strength, too, is to bring global support, and not just sporty. “I look at the pilot’s entourage. The parents also need to trust me, that we are not in contradiction in order to move forward together. »
He accompanies his protégés in competitions, providing them with psychological support and instills in them a winning mentality.
“I think what changes is that I was a pilot before. I know what the sacrifices I ask of them represent, having experienced them. »
Particularly to progress technically, which was his specialty when he was still at the helm.
Off the beaten track
Support that pays, since a certain Mathis Valin brought him the title of vice-champion of France in the first yearbefore going on to become champion the following year.
His recipe: a dose of know-how, mixed with an outside-the-box mentality.
“For Mathis, I didn’t make him follow the normal curriculum. I made the choice to remain in a lower category for one more year so that he continues to progress. »
A decision not always understood at the time, but time will largely prove him right. “I was sure of myself, and Mathis trusted me. »
Proof that being great also sometimes means not hesitating to go against the grain in order to go further.
Long list of champions
Today, his track record as a coach shows the full extent of his talent: four times French champion, twice European champion and once world champion.
With names that resonate in the world of motocross: Valin, of course, his “greatest success” who will also join the world circuit at the start of the school year, but also David Herbreteau, Anthony Bourbon… This year again, he revealed pure talentsstill very young but with a long journey to follow, which is already similar to that of champions: Slenny Goyer, European champion, or even Timoteï Cez, just ten years old on the clock!
To the point that it is not even laudatory to talk about the making of champions, but simply factual. However, he remains very modest on this subject. “ My greatest satisfaction is seeing my drivers on the podiums. I love seeing their developments. »
Coach and entrepreneur
Valentin Teillet today makes a living from his coaching activity. To sustain his business, he also had to retrain as a business manager, constantly looking for sponsors in a sport that remains expensive.
“We are lucky to rely on a lot of local partners, but it’s always a little difficult. » A sometimes cruel economic reality, which recently forced him to part ways with Slenny Goyer, due to lack of sufficient means to continue to take the future champion even higher.
But his passion is more important. “I earn my living normally. I don't need much to live. »
So the coach continues on his path, with the drivers already signed, but also recently by broadening his spectrum, withthe creation of My Moto Coaching, an online service entirely dedicated to young and old wishing to join the path blazed by the greatest pilots… “I much prefer my life today, I am fulfilled. »
