According to “Le Figaro”, the great-nephew of Guyanese and former Minister of Justice Christiane Taubira was arrested on Tuesday October 29 at Cayenne airport in Guyana with a little less than 10 kg of cocaine in his possession.
Arrests at Cayenne airport for possession of drugs are frequent to the point that they are no longer noted, except that this time the identity of the arrested person attracts attention. He would be a great-nephew of Guyanese Christiane Taubira, who was Minister of Justice between 2012 and 2016 under the presidency of François Hollande.
While he was about to board a flight to Paris-Orly this Tuesday evening, he was arrested with a little less than 10 kg of cocaine in his possession, according to Le Figaro which confirms the information of a journalist fromEurope 1.
Until 2022, Félix-Éboué airport in Cayenne was one of the main exit points for white powder destined for France, transported by mules.
But with the implementation of a 100% passenger screening system in October 2022, the number of seizures has decreased: in 2023, 571 kg of cocaine were seized at the airport, compared to 982 kg in 2022. But drug traffickers are finding new solutions such as freight and ports.
