What is this strange accident in a hamlet in Eure near Damville?

The events took place on Friday, November 1, in the afternoon. A crazy car clearly drove around a property before exiting, smashing the gate. The owner of the place is perplexed.

César Augier can’t believe it. This resident of a quiet hamlet in Eure, near Damville, remains perplexed by the gate of his garden literally pulverized and the fence and hedge of his property torn off.

Around 3:30 p.m., this Friday, November 1, 2024, César Augier and his family left their home in La Gaudrée. His cell phone rings, neighbors tell him that an accident has just happened at his home.

The car sped off on a very small road which crosses the hamlet.
“They heard a huge crash. When they came out, they told me, they saw the gate to our garden in a thousand pieces and a white car speeding away in the direction of Megremesnil.”

Returning home in the evening, he walks around his garden and traces the thread of this very strange accident. According to his findings, “the hedge and part of the garden fence were literally flattened by the passage of a car whose tire tracks can be seen in the lawn,” he describes. “When we follow them, we arrive as far as at the swimming pool, the traces go around and come out through the wooden gate.

Mirror and bumper debris

César Augier also discovered, he relates, car debris including a piece of rear-view mirror and a piece of bumper “which could come from a Citroën like Berlingo”.

Although he is relieved not to have been present at the time of the accident – “my children could have been in the garden” – he still wonders what really happened.

“If the driver lost control of his vehicle and accidentally hit the hedge, why did he go around the garden? Why did he get out by breaking down a heavy wooden gate when he could have gone back through the torn hedge ? That was taking the risk of seriously damaging your car and injuring yourself!”

César Augier estimates his damage “at around €8,000”. He hopes that the Nonancourt gendarmes, with whom he filed a complaint, this Saturday, November 2, will find the author of this accident. A way for him to get reimbursed, but also to lift the veil on a very mysterious accident.

When contacted, the Nonancourt gendarmes confirmed that there had indeed been a complaint, but did not wish to comment further on the subject.
