She has already sounded the alarm to her management on several occasions. At the Pierre-Janet psychiatric hospital in Le Havre, the management of a “violent and sometimes dangerous” patient exhausts the team, in a national context where psychiatric services are already at the end of their rope. In this establishment, the situation worsened about a month ago after an outburst of violence from this patient which targeted the caregivers, reports Actu76.
Seven agents to manage her in solitary confinement
After this episode, nine of them were placed on sick leave and a collective complaint was filed. To manage this patient, whose violence is one of the symptoms of her illness, five agents are needed, or a team of seven, when she is placed in solitary confinement. A problem to be available to all the other patients.
The team submitted the idea of a relay between the four pavilions of the Pierre Janet center every two months, but management believes that this change would not be beneficial to the patient. However, according to the team it would be a breath of fresh air while waiting for her to join a unit for difficult patients (UMD), for which an admission request is in progress.
“We don't want to get rid of the patient but we really need a relay and appropriate care,” says Julien, caregiver, to Actu. The unions sent a letter to the regional health agency to emphasize the urgency of placement in UMD.
