The prefecture of Reunion announced this Saturday the seizure of nearly 200 kilos of various drugs, on a ship off the coast of Reunion. An operation carried out by the Armed Forces of the Southern Indian Ocean Zone (FAZSOI) on Thursday October 31, 2024.
On Thursday, October 31, a surveillance frigate of the Armed Forces in the southern Indian Ocean zone (FAZSOI) seized a significant quantity of drugs off the coast of Reunion.
The nearly 200 kilos of cannabis, resin, heroin and methamphetamine were on board a coaster-type ship, the Reunion prefecture reported this Saturday. The boat was then 180 km north of Reunion.
“This new operation off the coast of Reunion once again demonstrates France's determination to fight against drug trafficking, a factor in the destabilization of our regional partners.“, welcome the State services.
The operation follows a previous seizure of 1.6 tonnes of methamphetamines earlier this year.
“Illicit flows, particularly of drugs or goods, pose a significant threat to the security, social and health situation in the region. Through their constant commitment, the means contributing to State action at sea bring a blow to transnational criminal organizations by removing a significant financial windfall from the informal market”
