La Plagne sees double. After 23 years of absence, the Savoie station is making its comeback on the 2025 Tour de France route for the 112th edition of the cycling race. Known for its ski slopes, La Plagne will be the arrival town for the 19th stage, 130 km long from Albertville.

Cycling enthusiasts will also be able to ride in the wake of professional riders during the Etape du Tour de France. Five days before the arrival of the peloton, scheduled for July 25, thousands of enthusiasts from all over the world will take the same mountain roads as the runners of the Grande Boucle, with 4,500 meters of elevation gain and five Beaufortain passes on the program. . A winning double for the station.

“The Tour stage, in terms of numbers, is 17 000 registered and with accompanying people, that’s 40 000 to 50 000 people arriving. As for the Tour de France, tens of thousands of people come. There is a real economy behind it.”assures the mayor of La Plagne Tarentaise, Jean-Luc Boch.

“It is the best vector of communication that exists and above all, it is a diversification tool for mountain territories”underlines the city councilor, concerned about “prepare for the future” for the commune of Haute Tarentaise.

For host municipalities, hosting a stage of the Tour de France costs between 100,000 and 150,000 euros. By hosting two events, La Plagne hopes to kill two birds with one stone. Just a few hours after the official announcement of the route, reservations had already started.

“Even though we have only been preparing for this event for a few weeks, we have noticed since (the announcement of the route) a strong peak in attendance on our website. We can count around fifty reservations on our territory, during the week of the Tour de France particularly”notes Moris Giroletti, director of the La Plagne Resort travel agency.

The Savoyard resort intends to use this double event as a springboard to make an impression, hoping to attract visitors all year round. It claims to be a land of cycling, a precursor of mountain biking.

“We have a cycling culture”says the president of the Grande Plagne Tourist Office, Pierre Gonthier. “If we remember the experience we had 23 years ago, the last climb remains a legendary site. We will be the last mountain stage before the arrival of the Tour de France.”

The highly anticipated stage finish of the Tour de France will take place in La Plagne Villages, where thousands of spectators will be able to see the riders give their last pedal strokes in more than 2 000 meters above sea level during the last great battle of the Alps.
