In Baigneux-les-Juifs it’s always a race against time. In search of a general practitioner or perhaps an emergency doctor for a year, the town finds itself in a bind.

The reason? The only doctor present in the town is retiring on December 31, 2024, while no health professional has yet been announced.

The town of Baigneux-les-Juifs still cannot find a doctor to replace its own, who is retiring at the end of December.

Because yes, Philippe Deschamps has a full consultation notebook. Present in the region for 36 years, the doctor sees his departure coming as the town and its inhabitants become more and more worried. According to him, nearly 1,600 patients will find themselves without a doctor in the sector.

However, the town went to great lengths, a banner was put up at the entrance to the town with the number of Mayor Didier Robin. Despite some contacts, no application was ultimately received.

A situation which does not satisfy the first councilor: “The residents of the canton, like everyone else, they pay taxes, they have the right to have access to health care”what is more according to him Baigneux-les-Juifs would be “thirty minutes from the nearest hospitals”, a doctor would therefore be more than welcome.

It's not just the patients who are disappointed, Philippe Deschamps is just as disappointed, “when you work for 36 years in the same place, when you meet the same people for 36 years, there is an affection that is formed, there is an intimate relationship that is formed”. For him, “knowing that I [Philippe Deschamps] go and leave them like that, without someone to take care of them, for me it’s a feeling of abandonment.”

This situation could not only harm the patients of the Baigneux-les-Juifs doctor, but also certain businesses in the town. This is particularly the case for the pharmacy, which sees in this news a possible drop in its patient base.

The risk is that patients find a doctor elsewhere and go to a nearby pharmacy. This will be a loss of customers for the pharmacy. If we no longer have patients, we have no more work.”explains the owner of the place.
