1,800 tons of steel have been assembled piece by piece for several months. An extraordinary project! Just to install it, it was necessary to move two railway lines to the strategic site of Saint-Denis. “You are here at the heart of the network which is one of the most densely operated in France and even in Europe”declares Patrice Schmitt, SNCF Réseau project manager.

3 km from the Gare du Nord, this new bridge replaces its 130-year-old predecessor. Tired, he was placed under close surveillance. It served Picardy via line K and the TER Paris- (in Aisne); it even had to ensure the passage of the Charles-de Gaulle Express.

It was impossible to see all these trains pass over such an old structure. We would have further accelerated the fatigue of this work and we would unfortunately have been obliged in the long term to prohibit traffic on this bridge. explains Séverine Lepere, general director Île-de-France Sncf Réseau.

A particularity of this new structure is that it will be without pillars so as not to interfere with the RER network located just below. During its installation, traffic will be very limited on RER B and D and Transiliens K and H during the upcoming All Saints' Day weekends. Its commissioning is scheduled for August 2025.
