The latest economic survey of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) of Vendée, carried out with Medef, CPME, U2P and OESTV, reveals a continuing economic slowdown in the region.
Conducted between the 1is and on October 15, 2024, this survey, to which 838 companies responded, shows a persistent decline in the level of activity since January.
An alarming context
45% of the companies surveyed reported declining activity, while a third of them saw their margins decrease compared to the previous year.
Leaders are concerned about economic instability and lack of visibilitywith 70% citing public policy and regulations as their main concerns.
Geopolitical conflicts and climatic conditions also raise concerns, hampering development prospects.
Contrasted results for tourism
Tourism professionals have been severely affected by poor weather conditions and the drop in purchasing power. The average ticket, the number of seats and the occupancy rate are down compared to 2023, affecting 49%, 62% and 59% of companies respectively.
51% of professionals evaluate the summer season 2024 as averagewith notable disparities between the coastline, which is doing better, and the retro-coastal.
Industry and construction, persistent challenges
In the construction sector, production levels are adjusted according to market demand. The industry is suffering from underutilization of its capacitiesaffecting 48% of companies.
The main difficulties are now the decline in the order book (52%), the extension of customer payment times (42%) and the decline in margins (36%).
Employment: relative stability
Despite the difficult context, the number of permanent employees remains high (stable or increasing for 80% of companies). The adjustment is mainly made on jobs Fixed-term contract or temporaryparticularly in industry and CHR.
The confidence index of Vendée business leaders fell slightly (6.4 vs. 6.5), with forecasts showing a stability of economic activity to one relatively low level. The situation remains uncertain, but businesses are trying to resist and adapt to current challenges.
