For 8 editions, the Frac Weekend (WEFRAC) has been the national highlight of the network of regional contemporary Art funds, a weekend during which the twenty-two Fracs are in turmoil and offer a particularly dense and festive program. to the public!
Scheduled for November 16 and 17, the WEFRAC program particularly highlights an operation carried out by each Frac in its region in mainland France but also on Reunion Island: a screening in a cinema, an artist residency in a company , a meeting in a media library or even the finishing of an exhibition in a Museum!
Regarding Reunion Island, the FRAC RÉUNION collection, with more than 500 works, is distributed throughout the island. In 2020, a traveling container named Bat' Karé is designed as an exhibition room and carries the same requirements (picture rails, parquet flooring, air conditioning, qualitative lighting, etc.). Monographic exhibitions by invited artists, exhibitions from the collection and mixed exhibitions were presented there.
The container can be circulated in large school complexes, in front of a theater or in a leisure and holiday center. The container is the promise for the territorial fabric of a presence of visual arts in priority neighborhoods. Thanks to it, the FRAC is developing its presence in the island's municipalities and intensifying its relationships with territorial stakeholders and the public.
The happy marriage between a heritage “realized” through the house and the estate, and a heritage “in the making” through the FRAC RÉUNION collection attracts and seduces both tourists and art lovers. The house was then part of a courtyard which we guessed had existed in the past due to its family character (washhouse, vegetable garden, fruit trees, etc.) and its recreational function (fountain, aviary, flowerbeds, etc.) .
This garden, somewhat forgotten over the decades, contained treasures of “lontan” trees, fruits that can only be found in family courtyards. Thus, with the support of the Réunion Region and the State, the Maison du FRAC RÉUNION was able to entrust this project to the landscaper Sébastien Clément in order to find harmony and create a link between inside and outside, between nature and architecture, between contemplation and visit, between plant heritage, built heritage and the contemporary proposal of plastic creation.
