Meurthe-et-. Cars and scooters on fire on Halloween evening in the Greater Metropolis

Halloween festivities are not just about disguised children ringing bells and letting out “trick or treat…” Now, Halloween also rhymes with urban violence and burning cars. Just like July 13 and 14 or December 31.

Prefectural decree in force

To prevent excesses, the prefect of Meurthe-et- had issued a decree and “exceptional provisions, in force from Thursday October 31 at 8 a.m. until Monday November 4 at 8 a.m. throughout the departmental territory” , in order to “guarantee public tranquility and prevent any incident that could result from gatherings or risky behavior”.

The decree therefore prohibits the “sale, purchase, transfer, carrying and transport of all fireworks and pyrotechnic articles […] during the period concerned; the purchase and retail sale, removal and transport of all combustibles, flammable gases, fuel by jerrycans or various and portable containers; the sale and consumption of alcohol in public spaces.

Measures intended to “guarantee the safety of everyone during the festive Halloween period, by anticipating risks and reducing behavior likely to cause serious incidents”.

Despite everything, a few vehicles burned during the night from Thursday to Friday in the area, with, in the end, at least four cars and two scooters on fire, in the communes of Laxou (Provinces district) and Vandoeuvre-lès- Nancy (Vand'est district – Black Forest).
