Did Air France take advantage of legal uncertainty to the detriment of its customers?

Taxes, fuel, inflation… The French face the (very) high cost of living
You probably haven't noticed, and yet your expensive France tickets are already more expensive. The increase in tax on flights has not yet been adopted, but the company is already applying it for its reservations for 2025. And obviously, the TF1 reporting team is telling customers: “It’s embarrassing, especially in the current conditions. We have a crisis,” wonders one of them. “We need to tax planes, yes. If people avoid flying, that’s better,” believes a passerby.

Tax on plane tickets: an “additional cost of 9.50 euros” for flights in Europe mentioned by the Minister of Transport
How much is this increase? For a Paris-Toulouse ticket on November 15, the tax is 1.50 euros. For the same flight, from January 2025, it increases to 8.37 euros. Another example, for a Paris-New York ticket in 2025: 35.49 euros tax, almost 33 euros more than today. When contacted, Air France admitted to having anticipated this measure. If it is ultimately not voted on, the company promises: “The group companies will carry out an adjustment so that the amount collected is equal to the amount actually owed.”
The share of taxes in your plane tickets will therefore increase further. Today, on a Paris-Toulouse at 130 euros, 50 euros in revenue for the company, 27 euros in fuel and 53 euros in taxes. There are 6 or 7 depending on the tickets, which can represent up to 40% of the price of a plane ticket. The French Bee company and the Air France subsidiary Transavia also anticipate this tax increase.
