In total, more than €1.3 million will finance 23 cycle path development projects. Two projects are located in Gard.
Meeting in a permanent committee on October 18, regional elected officials voted to finance 23 cycle path development projects for a total amount of more than €1.3 million. This aid is part of Act 2 of the Bicycle Plan (€100 million) adopted last June, the objective of which is to make Occitanie a pioneering territory in terms of cycling and low-carbon mobility.
The Region wishes to change the travel habits of its fellow citizens towards even more virtuous behavior, particularly on daily journeys, particularly home-work journeys. Because although cycling is increasing, the modal share of cycling still remains limited in France. To accelerate its action for low-carbon mobility, it supports in particular the creation of secure cycle paths and supports the regions in the implementation of their cycle project.
Carole Delga declares: “For a long time, I have given priority to soft, collective and carbon-free mobility. The use of bicycles must be made easier, particularly to encourage short everyday distances. To achieve this, we are strengthening our support for municipalities to help them develop their cycle path projects. Having infrastructure suitable for cycling with secure and reserved routes is one of the essential conditions for encouraging daily practice.”
23 projects will receive regional support for a total amount of €1.3 million. Among them, two projects are in Gard: the development of a cycle path in Beaucaire which benefits from aid of €27,000 and the development of a cycle path in Grau-du-Roi at the level of the round -point 2000 subsidized to the tune of €64,000.
