Amathoullah Adinani, first Mahoran airline pilot

The news has gone around and made an entire region proud. Mayotte can now boast of having a female airline pilot. Her name is Amathoullah Adinani, she is 28 years old. Originally from Tsingoni, she lives between , the city where she studies, and where her family has settled.

Mayotte the 1st: You are the first Mahorese woman airline pilot, how does it feel when you realize your dream and make an entire island proud?

I'm very happy to get to this point. In fact, my phone hasn't stopped ringing since the news spread. It makes me happy and it’s a real honor.

Can you tell us about your journey?

I always knew what studies I wanted to pursue, so I embarked on pilot training. I was lucky enough to be partly funded by the DPSU (Department), which allowed me to obtain a scholarship from them. ESMA, AIRWAYS COLLEGE PFT and AEROPYRENEES are the establishments I attended.

How were your years of study?

After several bankruptcies and moves, I settled down in Perpignan to finish my training. The hardest periods were my ATPL (Airline pilot license), theoretical from a distance alone. The uncertain future of the schools was also a source of stress knowing that each new school meant a new move.

What role did your family play in your journey?

Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have an entourage who was able to support me from near and far. In particular my family, my husband, but also a group of Mahorais pilots who were of great help.

Is working in Mayotte part of your plans?

It would be an honor to have the opportunity to work at home, within the EWA company if the opportunity presented itself. Despite everything, I remain open to other opportunities outside the territory. The medium short haul would suit me more in the perspective that I would like to juggle as best as possible between my professional and private life.

As a young pilot, what do you think of the runway at Marcel Henry Airport?

The track in Mayotte is a divisive subject. From my point of view, the length of the current runway is not a problem so far because it still allows long-haul flights to be accommodated although it is limiting. Despite everything, it is a subject that is discussed as it does not have all the ins and outs at my level, I have no problem asking about it.
